IT'S SHOWDOWN TIME!!!

nana and dolly...
i had a slight dilemma viewers...to go to the footy dressed up in my nana mouskouri costume or perhaps maybe wear the tracky dacks and ugg boots, my from the couch threads?mm, how many of you had other functions to attend? and why didn't anyone check the calendar before they decided to get married, have a birthday, christening or celebrate kate and wills wedding anniversary? yes we had a 40th to attend but little sis and i going to the footy as nana mouskouri and dolly parton (well it would have been funny) but not funny sweltering in the heat so no...
finally the big day had arrived and i kicked it off with an early morning basketball match, 8am to be precise...OUCH but not moi, son number two was playing and then after that it was full swing to get organised and ready. lovie pulled the plug and so it was left to find a suitable replacement.imagine that a spare ticket to the SHOWDOWN... were we for real?...yes and the lucky recipient was none other than a fellow member of the lady army who had been too slack to organise her membership. lovie's hip was playing up and she was feeling somewhat overwhelmed which i can understand. i have another friend who relinquishes her membership for showdowns because she finds it too stressful. so back to organization...chicken,salad on turkish bread, check, leftover birthday cake, check, organic juices, check, two organic apples, check, 1 bag of natural confectionary lollies, check, one bag of popcoprn, check, one bottle of water, check and one nudie smoothie, check. nothing like being organized. sorry folks but i ain't lining up in long queues or paying for food that is overpriced and not a regualr staple in my pursuit of a healthy lifestyle.
now the plan to get there. brother in law taxi, check, friend coming to pick us up...30 mins behind schedule, tut, tut! my brother in law dropped us off at the back entrance, well almost. ( and i have to admit driving to the game i began to feel that nervous excitement) we just had to walk across the park and gain entry via the members entrance at the northern end. smart move coz then we were right where we were supposed to be...the western stand. two rows from the fence line, son number two and i looked after seats while the stadium pretty much began to fill up after 2:30 pm. i was happy with our view. we love to be up and close where the action is. unfortunately we had 6 crows supporters in front of us. they were not happy with our passionate and loud cheering but hey tough, suck it up big time i say and if you are foolish enough to sit with PORT supporters well then face the music. and seriously leaving before the game finished? what a complete disgrace and lack of resilience, that viewers is a no,no in my books, gotta take the good with the bad.
so what can i say folks? the first quarter was blistering. to think loebe would kick the first goal i wouldn't have picked him but one lucky radio listener is 5000 the better. is it an understatement to say i was feeling on top of the ladder? hee, hee. still throughout the game i was pretty composed but yes very, very loud and extremely proud. i have said this before and i will say it again. last year was just the beginning. this is a team viewers and what an exciting team they are to watch and i just love their brand of footy and respect for their supporters. i won't carry on with the stats, i will leave that to the expertise of son number two who is best friends with the AFL app on my iphone. gotta say though it does come in handy and apart from that lapse in the third PORT were the dominant side all day. tackling, running hard and some awesome passages of play and handy goals. i felt all the team had put in and it makes me wonder now with the depth of the list how hard it is gonna be for some young guns to make the side.
for all the criticism of butcher's kicking style he does put in a 100 percent effort, that nifty handball...goal. his first set shot...yes people gasped in almost disbelief but that was the turning point in the third and what ignited a quick onslaught... 30 in front by three quarter time. and what about that last quarter? i have to admit it was just awesome being part of this historic day and seeing your team sink the boot in. and of course not forgetting being with the lady army plus one. and what do the crows have to crowplain about? nothing, some dodgy decisions but all up if one is to be subjective, outclassed, outrun by a tight unit who is hungrier for the ball and who plays for one another. yes it is easy viewers to hop on the PORT roadtrain but i haven't forgotten those harsh critics of our own who were willing to sink the boot in when we were at our worst. not me nor those i know who are passionate about the club. i joined when they were down and out and have witnessed the remarkable turn around that has come about simply because of a few things like...EFFORT, SELF BELIEF and CULTURE. the team have bought into it because they know it is a great investment and from the membership numbers now it is clear the fans have to. bless you POWER and keep on keeping on.
PS we stayed at the stadium for another good hour, watched the team come out and do their warm down. we caught the train home, easy, convenient. and yes folks couldn't help myself as i had to announce...this is a happy train, take us to happy town!!! over and out.
Love FFFandF XXX.
PPS thanks POWER for the freebie t-shirt too...hee,hee...i wore it to school...cheeky i know but to enjoy a 55 point victory well one cannot help it!!!
the lady army plus one...
